Maiko of Miyagawa-cho

Discover Miyagawa-cho, one of the five Hanamachi (geisha districts) of Kyoto. This book introduces over 50 maiko (apprentice geisha) of this geisha district with more than 450 photos taken over the last eight years.

Patrick now lives right in the middle of this neighborhood and has been taking photos of his neighbor, the maiko, over the last eight years. In the beginning, he encountered this secret world by chance and didn't know anything. Being curious by nature, he had to know more, to understand what he was seeing. Quickly, curiosity changed to obsession and he went to spend time there as much as he could. This book is the result of this quest.
